Sewing Machine Care Tips
A sewing machine like any other machine needs to be lubricated to keep the moving parts working smoothly.
As you use your sewing machine your needle will get dull and you will need to change your needle so that you have a sharp needle to sew with. A dull needle will cause trouble as you are sewing. If you don't have a new sharp needle on hand you can take your old needle and stitch through a piece of canvas or fine sand paper to sharpen it. Just run the needle through the fine sand paper or canvas a few times to do a quick sharpening of your needle.
It is important to oil your sewing machine often. Use sewing machine oil and find out where you should be oiling your machine. Then use a desk blotter underneath as you are oiling to stop oil from getting on fabric. After you are done oiling a sewing machine sew a little on a rag to make sure no oil will get on your good material. The rag will soak up the extra oil that spills over when you are oiling your sewing machine.
The foot pad tends to move around when you are trying to sew. You can put a piece of foam rubber under the foot pad to help hold it in place. You can also put foam rubber under your sewing machine if it slips around while you are sewing. You can cut the foam rubber to the size you need it and glue it on the bottom of your foot pedal.
A tiny paintbrush is ideal for removing lint in small places on your sewing machine. A small brush that is used for razor blade cleaning is great since it is stiff and tiny.
