Craft a Ball Snowman Doll Using a Chenille Bedspread
Restyle an old chenille bedspread into a whimsical ball snowman decoration for the holidays. This little guy does not require a sewing machine, although a small amount of hand sewing will be needed.
Things You Will Need:
Lightweight cardboard
Compass
Scissors
White chenille bedspread
Sewing needle and thread
Stuffing
Hot glue gun
Blush and cotton swab
Measuring tape
Orange pipe cleaner
Wooden skewer
4/0 black snaps (two)
Black thread
Fleece or velour scrap
2 flat buttons
Step 1
Trace a 6-inch, 8-inch and 10-inch circle on lightweight cardboard using a compass. Cut out the circles. These are the patterns for your snowman's head, middle and bottom sections.
Step 2
Lay the circles on the wrong side of a white chenille bedspread. Trace around the circles and cut out.
Step 3
Sew a running stitch around the edges of a chenille circle. Pull the thread to gather. Before gathering the circle completely closed, tightly stuff the circle to form a ball. Close the opening, knot and cut the thread. Repeat with the remaining two circles.
Step 4
Stand the largest ball on your work surface with the gathered end facing up. Apply hot glue over the gathers. Place the middle ball on top of the glue with the gathered end facing up. Apply hot glue on the gathers of the middle ball. Place the head on the glue with the gathers of the ball facing down. Press the balls together until the glue has cooled.
Step 5
Determine which side of the head will be the snowman's face. Apply two cheeks spaced 1/2 inch apart to the face using blush and a cotton swab.
Step 6
Cut a 2-inch piece from an orange pipe cleaner. Wrap the length around a wooden skewer. Slide the wrapped pipe cleaner off of the skewer. Tightly squish the coils together. This is the snowman's nose. Apply hot glue to one end of the coil and place in the center of the snowman's face.
Step 7
Sew two 4/0 black snaps above the nose for the eyes. Tip: To hide the knots, insert the needle at the neck of the snowman.
Step 8
Cut a 2-inch-wide by 15-inch-long strip of colorful fleece or velour. Wrap the strip around the neck and tie to secure. Trim the ends as desired.
Step 9
Hot glue two flat buttons down the center of the middle ball.
This snowman is not meant to be used as a toy. The small parts are a potential choking hazard for a child.
