Sewing Blogs Offer a Wealth of Free Sewing Resources
After your machine, the internet can be your biggest sewing help! Here are some of my favorite sewing blogs.
So, without further ado, here are a few of my favorite sewing blogs:
Sewing and Growing
Sewing and Growing is my own blog, and so is my most favorite. It is not the number one sewing blog on the web, but here you will find ideas galore for easy things and ways to make and do, sew and grow. There are tutorials written by me and links to great ideas written by others; there are a great many posts with easy-to-sew gift ideas, as well as simple and easy wardrobe sewing, pattern and product recommendations and reviews, and more.
Sew Mama Sew
I don't know how to determine exactly what IS the number one sewing blog on the web, but I guarantee you that a great many sewists would name SewMamaSew as their favorite. Because I do sew a whole lot of gifts, the annual "Handmade Holidays" series, which runs every day throughout Novembers, is one of the most valuable resources online for me. Several years worth of these are fully accessible on the blog; look through these posts and get good ideas for ideas to sew for your holiday gift giving list this year. There is much more than gifts at SewMamaSew, too, including many very helpful intermediate level technique tutorials.
SewMamaSew also sells gorgeous fabrics and patterns through their online store. They post "Free Fabric Friday" blog posts as well; comment on friday posts for a new chance to win free fabric every week. They also sponsor lots of other fabulous giveaways throughout the year, as well. It is also worth knowing that this site includes a forum, where you can ask questions and link to show off your own creations.
Made By Rae
The author of this blog is incredibly talented and a real pro. At Made By Rae you will find super easy to follow tutorials for many cute things. Check out the "itty bity baby dress" sized for a newborn; the Spring Ruffle Top (for ladies); the adorable Buttercup Bag purse, made from a single fat quarter of fabric; and a plethora of tutorials for making things for boys.
Rostitchery
This is a warm and wonderful blog by a talented lady named Rowena. She has published free tutorials for all manner of things at Rostitchery, including the next project on my to-do list: an ingenious "Infinity dress" that can be worn as a tunic or dress and wrapped in many ways for an almost unlimited number of unique looks.
Made
If you are looking for tutorials for things to make for children, you will want to check out Made. She also has plenty of tutorials for home decor and holiday projects, as well as some awesome instructions for mastering various techniques.
Polka Dot Pineapple
If you like pincushions and flowers, be sure to check out Lettie's many great ideas at Polka Dot Pineapple. Her tutorials stand out by being almost exclusively easy and quick sew projects. She also shares many great ideas for repurposing and upcycling, including a great tutorial on how to make yarn from T-shirts.
Craft Gossip Sewing
Craft Gossip is less of a "blog" than a conglomeration of great blog posts from around the web. The sewing editor, Anne, does an amazing job of finding great projects from around the web. There are usually a great many new ideas linked here every day. Craft Gossip also includes many other categories besides sewing: on the CraftGossip home page you will find linked ideas for quilting, knitting, paper, recycled, felting, wedding, and more project categories.
We All Sew
We All Sew is a sewing site sponsored by Bernina. The editors here highlight great new sewing blogs every week, as well as compiling lists of great free tutorials, also updated weekly. They also point out sewing bloggers who tweet helpful info, so this is a great site to follow on twitter if you sew.
