Self-Threading Needle Makes Sewing Easy and Convenient
Does the trouble of threading a sewing needle keep you from making the crafts you love? Here is a great solution to the problem.
As we age, vision typically changes. This naturally occurring phenomenon makes threading a needle nearly impossible for some folks. There are a few options available to help get that thread through the eye of the needle. The wire needle threaded and the chimney-style needle threaded are excellent alternatives. I have tried the wire needle threading device with little success, but the chimney-style needle threaded has been better for me.
Simply placing the eye of the needle into the small opening keeps the needle in place with the chimney-style variety. It is easy to place the thread in the valley and pull the lever to thread the needle. I have a little trouble keeping the needle threaded when I remove the needle from the chimney stack.
For me, I have found the self-threading needles to be the easiest and most convenient way to thread a sewing needle. Self-threading needles can be found at craft stores or in the craft department at Wal-Mart. A package of six self-threading needles will cost close to $6. I prefer to use extra strong thread merely for my own convenience, but this is not necessary, simply my personal preference.
The self-threading needles have a tiny opening in the eye of the needle that will catch the thread for you and automatically result in a perfectly threaded needle nearly every single time. Some individuals prefer to make a small loop in the sewing thread and attempt to catch the thread by pulling the needle through the loop. I personally found this method rather difficult, but it may work well for you. In my experience, the easiest way to thread your needle using a self-threading needle involves wrapping the thread around your finger. Take your sewing thread and wrap it taught around your index finger of your non-dominant hand one or two complete times. Keeping the thread taut is the key.
Holding the self-threading needle in your dominant hand, have the eye of the needle pointing toward the thread on the other hand. Gently slip the needle under the thread that is wrapped around the finger and pull the needle firmly against the thread. It may take a couple of attempts to perfect the threading technique for your new self-threading needle, but soon you will thread your needle each and every single time.
I avoid sewing for years due to the complexity of threading a needle with no vision, but finding the self-threading needle has allowed me to create a number of projects using my sewing skills. The best part is that the self-threading needles are readily available and reasonably priced. You will again be making the crafts and sewing projects you love with ease and no frustration from threading the tiny eye of the needle.
