Best Left Handed Quarterbacks of All Time
The 10 greatest lefty quarterbacks to play the sport of football are featured in this list. College and NFL are included.
However these 10 quarterbacks have defied logic and done great things in the football world, some at the college level and others in the NFL. Some both. The 10 greatest left handed quarterbacks in football are as follows.
10. Cade McNown
McNown did not have a good career in the NFL, but he made his presence known in college. McCown played three and a half seasons at UCLA where he would lead the UCLA Bruins to the 1999 Rose Bowl game. He threw 81 touchdowns and 40 interceptions while at UCLA.
9. Kellen Moore
Moore really is underrated. This guy is as clutch as they come when it comes to quarterbacks. The evidence seen with his incredible 50-3 win loss record. Moore threw a combined 142 touchdown throws to just 28 interceptions in his college career. However he doesn't get high recognition because of the competition he faced.
8. Matt Leinart
He may not have "made it" in the NFL but his time at USC was a winning one. His pin point accuracy and play it safe attitude helped USC win two bowl games in three seasons including the 2005 National Championship. He would have won a second if it weren't for Vince Young.
7. Michael Vick
Vick is without a doubt the greatest running quarterback of all time and the fastest. He was drafted No. 1 overall for a reason by the Atlanta Falcons. Vick often relies too much on his running and is an inconsistent passer. But he did manage to win two playoff games and he was successful at both the college level and the NFL.
6. Mark Brunell
What a great story Brunell is. He was a fifth round pick and when he finally got his chance to start, it was with the expansion Jacksonville Jaguars. But somehow he made it work. Brunell would win 4 playoff games in the NFL with the Jaguars and Washington Redskins as a starter.
5. Frankie Albert
Maybe the most underrated quarterback of all time. This guy defied logic with his 5'10 height and his 166 pound body. He played seven seasons with San Fransisco 49ers. In 1948 he threw for an unheard of 102.9 passer rating, which today would be about 130 for an entire season. Maybe he should be in the NFL Hall of Fame.
4. Tim Tebow
Yup it's that guy again. Tebow is probably the best quarterback in NCAAF history. Two national Championships and unstoppable arsenal left defenses dazed and confused while he was at Florida. Tebow then continued his clutch play in the NFL by carrying a sorry 1-4 Denver broncos team to the playoffs and winning a playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tebow has converted eight game winning drives in 16 starts at quarterback. He just wins football games!
3. Norman Esiason
The Cincinatti Bengals don't have a great franchise history when it comes to quarterbacks, but "Boomer" is an exception. He was drafted in the second round by the Bengals in 1984 and played with them for nine seasons. He helped the Bengals make it to the Super Bowl in 1988 but lost to the 49ers. He passed for 247 touchdowns and 184 interceptions and actually has the most career passing yards by a lefty at 37,920.
2. Ken Stabler
The first ever left handed quarterback to win NFL Most Valuable Player. He would lose four AFC championship games but in 1976 he delivered the Super Bowl. Every postseason he would see defenses like the Steelers and Dolphins but with John Madden's coaching, Stabler retired with a 96-49-1 record as a starter.
1. Steve Young
Like Stabler, Young too would win an NFL MVP award, two actually. He would go on to win a Super Bowl and pass for a record six touchdowns in the big game against the San Diego Chargers. Not many remember that Young started out with the Buccaneers. Young was a duel threat quarterback who could beat you with his feet and his arm. When Young retired, he finished with highest passer rating in NFL history.
