How to Make a Hockey Stick Floor Lamp
Hockey sticks make the perfect height for a great floor lamp. You can use this hockey inspired floor lamp for a kid's room or even a guy's hang out room.
To Make a Hockey Stick Floor Lamp You Will Need:
4 to 5 Hockey Sticks
Epoxy Glue
Hockey Pucks (2 -3)
1 Black Halogen Floor Lamp
Twine (a few pieces about 2 feet long0
Scissors
Ball of twine
The floor lamp used in this simple project is one of those easy to assemble black floor lamps that almost every college student has in their dorm room. You can buy them at Target and Wal Mart for about $15 to $20. They also come in silver, white and gold, so feel free to use any color you want. These simple halogen floor lamps really do provide a lot of light and are very affordable. You can also find these halogen floor lamps at yards sales for about $2 all the time.
The first thing to do is to assemble your floor lamp. Just follow the instructions on the side of the box.
Now, I like to take my hockey sticks and sort of play around with how I want them to adhere to the floor lamp. You can create a symmetrical pattern with all of your hockey sticks evenly spaced and facing out. Personally, I like to create somewhat unplanned look by having the hockey sticks all leaning at different angles.
Now, once you have decided how you want to attach your hockey sticks, you can start gluing. I like to hold my hockey stick in place on the lamp, then lean I away and apply some the epoxy glue to the hockey stick. It would be really great if you have a second pair of hands helping you at this point. Now, press the hockey stick back in place. Use the twine to tie the hockey stick in place so that it does not move before the epoxy glue has dried. You can cut the twine off later.
Now, repeat this process with your remaining hockey sticks. Many of these halogen floor lamps also have a wide metal base. I like to let the foot of the hockey stick rest on this metal base and glue it down with epoxy glue as well. That is up to you though, because hockey sticks are so light that the epoxy glue can really hold it in place in almost any way.
Tips:
Try criss crossing some of your hocking sticks and gluing them onto the lamp base. This will create some visual interest and movement.
Make sure you can still access the power knob on the lamp after you attach the hockey sticks.
Now, use the epoxy glue to attach some of the hockey pucks to the foot of the hockey stick. You can also glue some of the hockey pucks on that bottom wide metal stand.
Now, this final touch is optional, but I like it. Take your ball of twine and wrap it around some of the handles of the hockey stick handle sand the main column of the floor lamp. Wrap it around about 10 times. Tie the twine off in knot and cut it off. This is a great way to cover any epoxy glue that leaked out and to make it look like the hockey sticks are simply tied to the floor lamp.
In place of the twine you could use some shoe laces from a pair of hockey skates or even some black electrical tape. You could also slip some hockey gloves down on the handles of the hockey sticks!
